Since the first people arrived in America, Native American people have been ridiculed and tortured. American people were quick to categorize them as a minority and associate them with different stereotypes over the years. Although measures are being taken to ensure Native Americans have an identity, society still oppresses the race with stereotypes that restrict Native Americans preferred way of living. Stereotyping Native Americans through Hollywood films has been a controversial issue in society. A stereotype is said to be a “widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing” (Oxford Dictionary).
